Goals/Job Description

Need a student web designer with AI experience who can create the look, layout and features of our existing website, that integrates our Food Bank activities on a real-time basis with our existing Meadowvale East Apostolic Church website. The plan is to complete the work that was done in 2025 by previous summer employee, in the design, development and implementation of the existing module that seamlessly updates activities of our Food Bank to our existing MEAC.CA website. In addition, create a Time Keeping Application for signing and out of employees and provide upload to our Payroll Program in Quickbooks.

The student web designer must understand both graphic design and computer programming. Once the website is created, the designer creates a manual to maintain this website.

Under the direction of the Pastor/Food Bank director, s/he will keep the site up-to- date and prioritizing needs, among other tasks. It is expected that the student web designer duties will cover all aspects of creating and maintaining the website.

The designer will be required to re-design and update approved content on the site, assist with designing webpage layout, determining technical requirements, updating websites, creating back up files and solving code problems. S/he will evaluate accessibility and usability concerns and execute improvements to comply with legislated requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with a Disability Act.

A major project will be the design and development of an application to account for and report daily/weekly hours worked for all Summer Jobs employees.

Students are required to have worked knowledge of XHTML, CSS, PHP, and SQL, and be able to work on Site at 1510 Warden Ave, or work remotely using their own computer, but connect and interact on a regular basis with Team Lead.

Outline of activities, tasks and responsibilities

  • Design top level outline of scope – New module of Food Bank activities, openings, changes in times due to weather conditions, availability of Food; New Application for Time Accounting for Summer Camp employees.
  • Development of above with timelines.
  • Working with existing Web provider to integrate new module.
  • Testing of new module.
  • Sign-off of new module.

How Do I Qualify:
  • Must be between the ages of 15-30 years at the start of the employment. Maybe more than 30 years at the end of the employment period.
  • Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom Refugees protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; for the duration of employment, and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment, and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant territorial and provincial legislation and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and youth, preferably in a camp style setting.
  • Agreement to comply with the values and principles of the MEAC Church, on which the program is built. Complete all other application requirements e.g. complete and signed Code of Conduct form and agree to follow all camp objectives, rules, policies and procedures as established by MEAC.
  • Demonstrated leadership, responsibility, time management, decision-making skills and is able to work as part of a team. Sound judgement and flexibility to work on a shift basis is also required.
  • Applicant must be willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense before start of employment.
